I imagine it as a wisp of plants and flowers adorned with the bleached bones of various fauna,

A spirit inhabiting forests most active in the Fall; and/or the harbinger of grave natural imbalances.
As a conduit of decay, the play an important part of the cycle of yearly rebirth.
Through their presence, the spread of disease and illness is kept at bay; they are Leukocytes of the forest, if you will.
